Join Neil and Mardi Michels from eatlivetravelwrite.com for an evening exploring the wines of Southwest France. South of Bordeaux, the wines of this region are many and varied. From robust Bordeaux-style reds to the black wines of Cahors (home of Malbec), all the way to whites and luscious dessert wines. Lesser-known in our market, and often confused with the regions of Languedoc-Roussillon to the south, this area is also a food-lover’s paradise. We’ll sample whites and reds, lighter to full-bodied – and maybe a few surprises as well. If you want to discover a lesser-known region often offering great value, chat informally about the world of wine, and learn a few “go to” dishes for pairing with your wine, this is the evening for you.
All wines will be in the $10-$20 sweet spot, ideal for all your entertaining needs. Wines will be matched with tasty hors d’oeuvres that you will learn to make through the evening (a mixture of hands-on and demonstration dishes). Neil will talk you through the pairings. Impress your friends with your wine knowledge and wow their palates with some “easier to make than you think” hors d’oeuvres!
Friday January 19th 2018 6.30pm – 9.30pm at The Kitchen at St Lawrence Market. Click here for more details and to book.
Friday February 23rd 2018: French Bistro Classics
Take a trip to France over dinner. Join Neil and Mardi Michels from eatlivetravelwrite.com for an evening where you will learn to make a three-course meal of dishes you’d find in any French bistro. You’ll start out making puff pastry bâtons to nibble for your apéritif, followed by a trio of salads (salade de carottes, céleri remoulade and taboulé). Your main course will be Quiche Lorraine and you’ll end end on a sweet note with a Tarte Tatin (much easier to make than everyone thinks – sssh!). We’ll learn to make the pastry from scratch too! After you’ve cooked, we’ll sit down to enjoy the meal together. Wine will be paired with each course. Looking to impress that special someone? It’s perfect timing for a St Valentine’s Day gift!
